Scope
The Urban Dataset Metadata Requirements (UDMR) standard specifies a stratified set of dataset metadata. The following are within the scope of the standard:
- Descriptions of what the dataset is about, supplemented with temporal and geospatial information.
- Methods of accessing the dataset.
- Content and versioning information, simple FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) principles, temporal resolution of the data, and geospatial resolution of the data.
- Identify whether the dataset contains data on individuals (versus aggregate data). It also includes properties relevant to identifying whether the dataset contains indigenous data, which may have stricter privacy rules.
- Providing basic statistics and data quality
The lower levels of the stratification identify metadata that is most often used in searching for datasets and can be used by dataset users to assess the appropriateness of a dataset for their own analysis. The stratification also simplifies the cataloguer’s task by identifying the most important metadata to be provided.
The following are to be described in subsequent parts of the series:
- Extended properties from DQV2 to identify quality metrics for the data.
- Algorithms and scoring metrics for evaluating the level metadata of a given dataset comply with the UDMR.
- Algorithm and scoring metrics for evaluating the provenance of the metadata.
- Algorithm and scoring metrics determining trust between organizations and individuals.
- A tool for storing dataset metadata by urban data creators and curators.
- An interchange format standard for sharing dataset metadata.
