CSA C743:25

Performance standard for rating water-chilling and heat pump water-heating packages
1 Scope 1.1 Inclusions 1.1.1 Vapour compression water-chilling and water-heating packages This Standard applies to factory-designed and prefabricated vapour-compression water-chilling and water-heating packages that include one or more compressors as well as a) water-cooled, air-cooled, or evaporatively-cooled condensers; b) water-cooled heat recovery condensers; c) air-to-water heat pumps; and d) water-to-water heat pumps with a capacity greater or equal to 40 kW. 1.1.2 Water-cooled water-chilling absorption packages This Standard also applies to absorption water-cooled water-chilling packages using lithium bromide refrigerant and including a) water-cooled single-effect steam; b) water-cooled double-effect steam; c) hot water-operated water-chilling units; d) water-cooled, hot water-operated double-effect water-chilling units; and e) double-effect, direct-fired (natural gas, oil, LP gas) water-chilling/heating units. 1.2 Exclusions 1.2.1 Vapour-compression water-chilling and heating packages The following products are not covered by this Standard: a) water-to-water heat pumps with a capacity less than 40 kW; b) air-to-water units designed exclusively to heat potable water; and c) adiabatically cooled chiller products. Notes: 1) Products that fall under Item a) are covered by AHRI 600-2. 2) Products that fall under Item b) are covered by CSA C745. 1.2.2 Water-cooled absorption chilling packages This Standard does not include water-cooled absorption chilling packages that meet one of the following criteria: a) absorption chiller/heater units with air-cooled condenser; b) applications employing heat pumping or exhaust gas firing; or c) absorption chillers not using lithium bromide. 1.3 Terminology In this Standard, “shall” is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the Standard; “should” is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; and “may” is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the Standard. Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material. Notes to tables and figures are considered part of the table or figure and may be written as requirements. Annexes are designated normative (mandatory) or informative (non-mandatory) to define their application.
