CAN/ULC-S705.1:2018
1.1 This Standard provides the physical property requirements and test methods to determine the
material properties for medium density closed cell spray-applied rigid polyurethane foam, used for thermal
insulation or for other purposes in building and non-building applications in both site-built construction and
prefabrication (manufacturing) facilities.
1.2 The spray polyurethane foam system supplier does not produce the medium density closed cell
spray-applied rigid polyurethane foam material for which this Standard specifies performance
requirements. The spray polyurethane foam system supplier produces a liquid “resin” component which,
when combined with the specific corresponding polymeric isocyanate on a fixed ratio basis (normally one
to one) during installation, produces the material for which this Standard specifies performance
requirements. Standard CAN/ULC-S705.2 includes mandatory requirements for the installation of the
material as well as the requirements of contractors and the qualification of installers. The procedures
described in CAN/ULC-S705.2 form an integral part of the manufacturing process for the finished product.
When the product is produced on site, the installation process outlined in CAN/ULC-S705.2 is required to
ensure that the material is able to meet the requirements of this Standard.
1.3 The test methods listed in this Standard are used to determine the values for the physical properties.
These physical property values are intended for use in specifications, product evaluations and quality
control. They are not intended to predict end-use product performance under all conditions.
1.4 The medium density closed cell spray-applied rigid polyurethane foam shall not be used when the
continuous service temperature of the substrate is outside the range of -60 °C to +80 °C.
1.5 The testing and evaluation of a product against this Standard may require the use of materials and/or
equipment that could be hazardous. This document does not purport to address all the safety aspects
associated with its use. Anyone using this Standard has the responsibility to consult the appropriate
authorities and to establish appropriate health and safety practices in conjunction with any existing
applicable regulatory requirements prior to its use.
