STANDARD METHOD OF FIRE RESISTANCE TEST – GREASE DUCT ASSEMBLIES
1 SCOPE 1.1 This Standard specifies a method of test and criteria for the determination of the fire resistance of grease ducts under standardized fire conditions. The requirements are intended to evaluate the ability of the grease duct to resist the spread of fire. See Appendix A for additional information. 1.2 This Standard also covers requirements to evaluate the ability of the duct to protect adjacent combustibles from igniting in the event of an internal grease duct fire. See Appendix A for additional information. 1.3 The grease ducts covered by these requirements are intended to be installed in accordance with the requirements in the National Building Code of Canada as pertaining to the ventilation of commercial cooking processes. 1.4 This Standard does not include requirements for combustibility, the surface flammability and the smoke generation potential of the coverings or insulating materials used to protect the grease duct. NOTE 1: Requirements used to evaluate the combustibility of building materials in accordance with the National Building Code of Canada are found in standards: CAN/ULC-S114, Standard Method of Test for Determination of Non-Combustibility of Building Materials and ULC-S135, Standard Method for the Determination of Combustibility Parameters of Building Materials using an Oxygen Consumption Calorimeter (Cone Calorimeter). NOTE 2: Requirements used to evaluate the flame-spread and smoke generation of building materials and assemblies in accordance with the National Building Code of Canada are found in standards: CAN/ULC-S102, Standard Method of Test for Surface Burning Characteristics of Building Materials and Assemblies and CAN/ULC-S102.2, Standard Method of Test for Surface Burning Characteristics of Flooring, Floor Coverings and Miscellaneous Materials and Assemblies.
