1. SCOPE
1.1 This Standard sets forth minimum requirements for emergency valves that are
intended to be used for the control of flammable and combustible liquids which are handled at
temperatures within the range of -40 ° to +50 °C. For the purpose of this Standard, flammable
and combustible liquids mean gasoline, fuel oil, kerosene and diesel fuel, including gasoline
with small amounts of additives such as detergents, solvents for detergents and anti-icing
chemicals; diesel with up to 5% biodiesel and gasoline with up to 15% ethanol or methyl tertiary
butyl ether (MTBE).
1.2 The valves are of the type used in the assembly of motor fuel dispensing
equipment and associated piping systems.
1.3 Valves covered under these requirements shall be newly produced valves
constructed entirely of new unused parts and materials.
1.4 These requirements cover valves of the manually or temperature operated types
or combinations of such to the exclusion of types operated wholly or partially by electricity.
They may form a part of an assembly, which provides for additional functions of service, the
requirements of which are outside the scope of this Standard.
1.5 Requirements for the installation and use of equipment handling flammable and
combustible liquids may be included in the National Fire Code of Canada and the regulations of
the authority having jurisdiction.
