Standard for Audible Signal Devices for Fire Alarm Systems
1. SCOPe 1.1 These requirements cover electrically operated bells, sirens, horns, and similar audible signal devices, rated at 300 V or less, for fire-protective signalling service and intended for indoor and/or outdoor installation in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I, and with the Standard for the Installation of Fire Alarm Systems, CAN/ULC-S524. For requirements pertaining to speakers, refer to ULC-S541, Standard for Speakers for Fire Alarm Systems. 1.2 These requirements cover audible signal devices for use in ordinary (non-hazardous) locations. 1.3 Audible signal devices for use in hazardous locations shall comply with the requirements of this Standard and the applicable requirements of the Canadian Electrical Code with respect to the location hazard. 1.4 An audible signal device as defined by this Standard is a unit assembly suitable for separate installation as a component of a fire alarm system. 1.5 A supplementary visual signal, incorporated as part of an audible signal device which is intended for fire alarm application, is covered by the applicable requirements in the Standard for Visual Signal Appliances, CAN/ULC-S526, in addition to the requirements of this Standard.
