This National Standard of Canada is equivalent to International Technical Report IEC 1289-1:1994. 1 Scope This technical report contains guidelines regarding the safe and effective operation and maintenance on HIGH FREQUENCY SURGICAL EQUIPMENT, as defined in clause 3, to be performed by medical and nursing personnel. The application guidelines in this document deal with the safe operation and maintenance of HIGH FREQUENCY SURGICAL EQUIPMENT constructed according to the safety requirements of IEC 601-1 and IEC 601-2-2 (see clause 2). Not all existing HIGH FREQUENCY SURGICAL EQUIPMENT meets the minimum requirements of current international standards, however, the guidelines in this report will still be helpful in utilizing these devices.
