Industrial Eye and Face Protectors
1.1 This Standard applies to eye and face protectors used in all occupational and educational operations or processes involving hazards to the eyes or face. Typical hazards include flying objects and particles, splashing liquids, molten metal, and ultraviolet, visible, and infrared radiations, but do not include X-rays, gamma rays, high-energy particulate radiation, radioactive materials, lasers, or masers. Note: It is recommended that the guidelines for protection outlined in Appendix D be followed when similar potentially hazardous activities in the home, leisure, and recreational environments are engaged in. For certain sports activities, other Standards should be consulted, eg, CSA Standards P400 for racquet sports ond CAN/CSA-Z262.2 for ice hockey. 1.2 This Standard sets minimum performance requirements in the tests described herein, but does not cover other factors of design such as comfort, service life, or appearance. Note: The conformance of protectors with these requirements does not imply equality of their performance nor should it be interpreted to mean that protectors are capable of affording greater protection than is specified in this Standard. 1.3 Although not covered by this Standard, eye protectors are available that significantly exceed the impact resistance requirements of this Standard. For reference, a high-speed impact test is included in Appendix C. 1.4 In this Standard, the use of the word "shall" indicates a mandatory requirement. The word "should" indicates a recommendation. 1.5 The values given in Sl (metric) units are the standard. The values given in parentheses are for information only.
