1.1 This standard applies to two types of refined petroleum oil suitable for steam cylinder lubrication. 1.2 Intended Uses - Lubricating oil to this standard is intended primarily for the lubrication of cylinders and valve chests of reciprocating steam engines. Both types may be used for general lubrication purposes where oils of this type are specified. 1.2.1 Type 1 is intended for use with saturated steam at pressures not exceeding 1200 kPa. 1.2.2 Type 2 is intended for use with saturated steam at pressures exceeding 1200 kPa and with superheated steam at all pressures.
