Covers lung ventilators that function through a direct connection to the airway of a patient. The Standard details basic requirements for the construction, performance and testing of lung ventilators. It includes requirements which are applicable to ventilators for use in all kinds of health care facilities and particular requirements applicable only to ventilators intended for use in mobile health care facilities or in short-term disaster type situations. The Standard does not include requirements for self-inflating bag mask ventilators, or patient-operated devices for delivering positive pressure to the airway.
