Smart manufacturing readiness assessment
1 Scope 1.1 Applicability This Standard describes a methodology for assessing the level of maturity of an organization for smart manufacturing measures and processes. This Standard provides evaluators and assessed organizations a method to determine the digital maturity of an organization and its manufacturing processes regardless of solution vertical. It covers the entire range of organizational aspects, including product design digitization, process digitization, digital technology adoption, ICT infrastructure, cyber security, privacy and data governance, and continuous improvement and transformation. It supports effective executive business decisions that establish a comprehensive maturity model approach to smart manufacturing. This Standard is applicable to all smart manufacturing initiatives, technologies, and solutions regardless of the manufacturing context or vertical served. It is intended to a) help organizations showcase their smart manufacturing readiness and implementation in a comparable manner on a global stage; b) help in benchmarking an organization’s readiness with other organizations both at home and abroad; and c) allow for comparison with other organizations in terms of their readiness. 1.2 Terminology In this Standard, “shall” is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the Standard; “should” is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; and “may” is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the Standard. Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material. Notes to tables and figures are considered part of the table or figure and may be written as requirements.
