1 Scope 1.1 Inclusions The requirements specified in this Standard apply to wall and ceiling-mounted track lighting systems intended to be installed in non-hazardous dry locations in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I. These requirements apply to a) permanently installed track systems i) rated 347 V or less, 40 A max; ii) supplied by a power source with an output of 30 Vrms, 42.4 Vpeak, or 60 Vdc, and less than 240 VA; or iii) supplied by a Class 2 power source; b) permanently installed lighting systems employing bare conductors supplied by a power source with an output up to 30 Vrms, 42.4 Vpeak, or 60 Vdc, and less than 240 VA; c) extra-low-voltage suspended ceiling grid systems that operate up to 30 Vrms or 42.4 Vpeak, connected to a Class 2 power source; d) luminaire assemblies incorporating incandescent, fluorescent, light-emitting diodes, and high-intensity discharge lighting sources; and e) canopies and other accessories. Note: See Rule 30-104 of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I, for the maximum rating of overcurrent protection. 1.2 Dual measurements The values given in SI units are the units of record for the purposes of this Standard. The values given in parentheses are for information and comparison only. 1.3 Terminology In this Standard, “shall” is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the Standard; “should” is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; and “may” is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the Standard. Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material. Notes to tables and figures are considered part of the table or figure and may be written as requirements. Annexes are designated normative (mandatory) or informative (non-mandatory) to define their application.
