Standard for Wood Fibre Thermal Insulation for Buildings
1. Scope 1.1 This standard contains requirements and test methods for wood fibre thermal insulation manufactured in the form of faced or unfaced panels. 1.2 The standard covers four types of wood fibre insulation on the basis of their material properties. (a) Type I - Preformed insulation in the form of boards, sheets, or panels without a face or coating. (b) Type II - Preformed insulation in the form of boards, sheets, or panels with a face or coating. (c) Type III - Preformed insulation in the form of boards, sheets, or panels with a facer or coating with air leakage properties of 0.02L/(s.m²) or less. (d) Type IV - Preformed insulation in the form of boards, sheets, or panels with a facer or coating with water vapour permeance of 45 ng/(Pa.s.m²) or less. 1.3 Insulation applicable to this Standard is intended for use as thermal insulation for floors, ceilings, walls, and roofing systems in construction buildings and manufactured housing. Note: For other various wood fibre applications such as sound deadening, ceiling, vapour barrier, air barrier, etc., consult the manufacturer for specific recommendations and product properties. 1.4 The testing and evaluation of a product against this Standard may require the use of materials and/or equipment that could be hazardous. This document does not purport to address all the health and safety aspects associated with its use. Anyone using this Standard has the responsibility to consult the appropriate authorities and to establish health and safety practices, in conjuction with any existing applicable regulatory requirements, prior to its use.
