CAN/CSA-C22.3 No. 1-01
1. Scope
1.1
This Standard applies to the lines and equipment of electric supply and
communication utilities located entirely outside of buildings and fenced supply
stations.
1.2
This Standard, which forms part of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part III,
provides requirements for the construction of overhead systems. It includes
electric supply and communication circuits installed alone, in joint use, or in
proximity to each other or other facilities; circuits crossing each other or
other facilities; and circuits crossing railways or highways, or land likely to
be traversed by vehicles or pedestrians.
1.3
The requirements contained in this Standard do not constitute complete design
and construction specifications, but only prescribe the minimum design
requirements that are most important from the points of view of
(a) safety to persons;
(b) continuity of service; and
(c) protection of property.
1.4
Conditions not covered herein are governed by the appropriate requirements, by
equivalent standards in common use, or as required by constituted authority.
1.5
In some rules, specific types of construction are envisaged. This does not
preclude the use of other types of construction arising out of the continuing
development of the art, provided that the engineering representatives of the
party or parties involved have evidence of the safety and suitability of these
alternatives.
