This Standard was developed in cooperation with the Canadian Welding Bureau. 1. Scope 1.1 This Standard covers requirements for establishing and maintaining the certification of welding inspection organizations. These requirements apply to each welding inspection centre seeking certification. 1.2 This Standard provides for organizations to be certified for the inspection of one or more product categories and for the use of one or more inspection methods. 1.3 This Standard includes requirements for all welding inspection and testing done by a certified welding inspection organization to be performed in accordance with the requirements of this Standard unless otherwise specified or agreed to by the authority having jurisdiction over the work to be inspected. Such an arrangement also includes requirements for the agreement of both the purchaser and the welding inspection organization. 1.4 This Standard specifies the minimum requirements for the certification of organizations engaged in welding inspection. 1.5 This Standard includes specific clauses to integrate the requirements of certification with those of the Canadian General Standards Board with respect to personnel performing radiographic, ultrasonic, magnetic particle, liquid penetrant, and eddy current examination. 1.6 This Standard includes requirements for the maintenance and calibration of inspection equipment. 1.7 This Standard includes requirements for the management of inspection records. 1.8 This Standard does not purport to address safety problems associated with welding and welding practices. Note: CSA Standard W117.2 addresses safety in welding, cutting, and allied processes and should be followed in addition to any workplace health and safety legislation in effect. It is the responsibility of the users of this Standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
