Standard for Cellulose Fibre Insulation (CFI) for Buildings
1. SCOPe 1.1 This Standard specifies requirements for treated wood-based cellulose fibre intended for use as thermal insulation (cellulose fibre insulation, CFI) in new and existing buildings within the temperature range of -60°C to 90°C. 1.2 This Standard describes general requirements for the material and additional requirements specific to applications. The applications are specified as Type 1 (dry) and Type 2 (spray applications). Type 1 application is dry loose-fill cellulose insulation pneumatically applied in open spaces (with slopes up to 4.5-in-12) and/or injected into enclosed cavities. Type 1 CFI may be also installed by poured application. Type 2 application is cellulose insulation sprayed with water into any open space, or into any cavity (regardless of slope) that will be closed later. 1.3 This Standard may require the use of materials and/or equipment that could be hazardous. This document does not purport to address all the safety aspects associated with its use. Anyone using this Standard has the responsibility to consult the appropriate authorities and to establish appropriate health and safety practices in conjunction with any existing applicable regulatory requirements prior to its use. 1.4 The methods used in this Standard to measure and describe the properties of materials, products or assemblies in response to heat and flame under controlled laboratory conditions do not describe or appraise the fire hazard or fire risk of materials, products or assemblies under actual fire conditions. Results of these tests are meant to be used as elements in a fire risk assessment that takes into account all factors that are pertinent to an assessment of the fire hazard of a particular end use.
