1. SCOPE
1.1 This standard is intended for use as a guide when preparing
specifications and contracts for the protective coating of mild and galvanized
steels, copper and aluminum exposed to atmospheric (non-immersion) service
conditions. It contains recommendations and procedures for new coating systems
which have performed satisfactorily after long-term exposures and repair of
failed coating systems. Aerospace applications are not covered in this
standard.

1.3 The term "specifier" is frequently used in a general sense and may be
understood to include owners, general contractors, architects and engineers.
