Aviation Turbine Fuel, Kerosine Type
1. Scope 1.1 This standard applies to three grades of kerosine type aviation turbine fuel consisting entirely of hydrocarbon compounds, except as otherwise specified. Kerosine Type, Aviation Turbine Fuels are distillates having a minimum flash point of 38°C. Grade JET A has a maximum freezing point of -40°C and Grade JET A-1 and Grade F-34 have a maximum freezing point of -47°C. 1.2 Grade JET A and Grade Jet A-1 describe fuels normally used in commercial operations. F-34 is a NATO code number, for a fuel used within the armed forces. 1.3 Intended Uses: Jet A, Jet A-1 and F-34 fuels are intended for use in aircraft which are certified to use such fuels. Operators should refer to their aircraft manuals for any temperature-related, or other, limitations regarding the use of these fuels. 1.3.1 Jet A is intended for use only in aircraft for which it is an approved fuel. When temperatures are close to the fuel freezing-point (-40°c max.), fuel operability problems may be experienced. Due to the higher freezing point of Jet A, it may require more restrictive use. Transport Canada's Air Worthiness Notice B021 provides further details on this matter. 1.3.2 Jet A-1 is intended for use only in aircraft for which it is an approved fuel. When temperatures are close to the fuel freezing point (-47°C max.), field operability problems may be experienced. 1.3.3 F-34 is intended for military aircraft use. 1.4 The testing and evaluation of a product against this standard may require the use of materials and/or equipment that could be hazardous. This document does not purport to address all the safety aspects associated with its use. Anyone using this standard has the responsibility to consult the appropriate authorities and to establish appropriate health and safety practices in conjunction with any applicable regulatory requirements prior to its use.
