1. Scope 1.1 General This Standard applies to the commissioning of communication systems in health care facilities. It is a companion document to the other Standards in the CSa Z318 Series of Standards. 1.2 Application For the purpose of this Standard, communication systems include the following active and passive systems that contribute to information flow: (a) sound system; (b) cable television; (c) clock and program equipment; (d) closed circuit television; (e) computer cabling system; (f) doctor/staff register system; (g) door supervision and card access (parking lot); (h) intercommunication; (i) medical dictation system; (j) nurse call system (voice and signal); (k) pocket paging system; (l) public address system; (m) sound masking system; (n) wireless staff communication system; (o) telemetry system; (p) telephone cabling system; and (q) room data - communication and extra-low-voltage system. 1.3 Limitations This Standard does not cover utilization communication equipment on the premises of a health care facility.
