Solid Carbon Steel Filler Metals for Gas Shielded Arc Welding
1. Scope 1.1 This Standard prescribes requirements for the classification and certification of solid carbon steel filler metals for gas-shielded arc welding. The term "electrode" is used for continuous wire for the GMAW process. The term "rod" refers to straight lengths, or continuous wire, used for GTAW, PAW, and similar processes. (See also Appendix A, Clause A4.) 1.2 Welding electrodes and rods classified in this Standard are intended for gas-shielded arc welding. This is not intended to preclude their use with any other process or any other shielding gas, or combination of shielding gases, for which they are found suitable. 1.3 Filler metals covered by this Standard are classified according to (a) the chemical requirements of filler metal (Table 1); and (b) the mechanical properties of the weld metal, in the "as-welded" condition (see Table 2). 1.4 Any filler metal certified under one classification shall not be certified under any other classification in this Standard. Note: The classification system is explained in Clause A1.2 of Appendix A. 1.5 The values given in SI (metric) units are the standard. The inch/pound (imperial) equivalents in parentheses are for information only. In case of dispute, metric values shall take precedent.
