Inorganic soil conditioners - Liming Materials from Industrial Processes
1 PURPOSe The purpose of this standard is to specify the characteristics of liming materials from industrial processes as well as the criteria and test methods for verifying these characteristics. 2 SCOPe This standard applies to industrial products and by-products destined for use as soil amendments, in keeping with agronomical or silvicultural principles, and which derive from: a) the action of water on calcium carbide in the production of acetylene [products and by-products essentially contain Ca(OH)2]; b) the dust collecting system of lime kilns; c) the production of commercial hydrated lime; d) the production of CaCo3 from quicklime; e) kraft pulp mills which produce lime mud, green liquor dregs and slaker grit; f) the combustion (with or without auxiliary fuel) of wood, wood residues, bleach wastes or sludge from the wastewater treatment activities of pulp and paper mills (bottom ash and fly ash from the combustion of these products are generated by sawmills, pulp and paper mills and power stations); g) fine by-products resulting from metal recovery during the treatment of slag from steel mills or primary smelters; h) cement kiln dust. The standard also applies to mixes resulting exclusively from the products derived from a), b), c), d), e), f), g) and h) above, with or without the following liming materials: natural limestone or quicklime provided it reacts fully with the water present in the mix to form Ca(OH)2.
