Intermediate Bulk Containers for the Transortation of Dangerous Goods
1. Scope 1.1 This standard applies to the design, manufacture and use of intermediate bulk containers (IBCs) for the transportation of dangerous goods classed as flammable, oxidizer, organic peroxides, poisonous, corrosive, or Class 9 dangerous goods as defined by the Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Regulations. Sections 4, 5 and 6 contain the testing (design) and manufacturing requirements and Section 7 the selection and use requirements for the intermediate bulk containers. The TDG Regulations have assigned a shipping name and Packing Group for every Dangerous good (some shipping names are generic). The packing group is the degree of danger assigned to a dangerous good (see par.3.2-3.4 and Appendix B). 1.2 The testing and evaluation of a product against this standard may require the use of materials and/or equipment that could be hazardous. This document does not purport to address all the safety aspects associated with its use. Anyone using this standard has the responsibility to consult the appropriate authorities and to establish appropriate health and safety practices in conjunction with any requirements prior to its use.
