1.1 This standard applies to two types of low sulfur distillate fuel, Type A-LS and Type B-LS required by high speed diesel engines (generally operating above 1200 r/min) that require low sulfur diesel fuel to meet emission control regulations. 1.1.1 Type A-LS is intended for use in engines such as urban transit buses and passenger automobiles or when ambient temperatures require better low temperature properties than Type B-LS. 1.1.2 Type B-LS is intended for use in engines in service involving relatively high loads as found in industrial and heavy mobile equipment, such as intercity trucks and construction equipment, when ambient temperatures permit.
