Polyurethane Foams for Upholstery
This standard establishes quality requirements for the soft cellular polyurethane materials intended to resist repeated pressures. Polyurethane foams are classified according to their type, density, firmness and burning behaviour*. This standard applies to polyurethane foams used for upholstery. It covers foam blocks, those cut into different shapes (bands, sheets, etc.) as well as molded foams. It does not apply to foams preprared in situ, nor to foams intended for carpet backing, nor to bonded foams produced by the adhesion of small pieces of urethane foams to each other. Suggested uses for the polyurethane foams covered under this standard are listed in Annex C. * This standard refers to a testing method for burning behaviour of foams which was considered the best available when the standard was prepared. However, the use of an alternate testing method may be agreed upon between the manufacturer and the user, particularly when burning behaviour is checked for foams which are considered non-flammable.
