1.1 This standard provides recommended course guidelines for the minimum essential training of, and a procedure for the certification of three levels of personnel to perform industrial ultrasonics testing according to generally accepted and recognized procedures and techniques. 1.2 Such certification shall provide recognition of the qualifications and competence of the three levels of personnel. (In superseding 48-GP-7M [June 1979], this standard does not cancel the certification of personnel which would otherwise remain in effect. The certification of such personnel is reclassified in accordance with Appendix G). 1.3 This certification procedure does not of necessity cover ultrasonic testing procedures and techniques required for specific products in certain industrial sectors. Industrial sectors making use of this standard should determine that personnel performing ultrasonic testing procedures and techniques required for specific products are further trained and qualified to meet the additional requirements as outlined in Appendix F before they perform industrial ultrasonic nondestructive testing on such specific products.
