1.1 This Standard is addressed to the owner of a nuclear power plant, hereinafter called "the owner". 1.2 This Standard contains the requirements for the owner's overall quality assurance program for a nuclear power plant. This program encompasses all phases of a nuclear power plant life cycle, including site evaluation, design, procurement, manufacturing, construction and installation, commissioning, operation and decommissioning. It covers the owner's activities associated with specifying, directing, and administering the work to be done during these phases, and the evaluation and integration of the activities and programs of participants. Note: Figure 2 and Table 1 illustrate the owner's activities necessary to meet the requirments of this Standard. 1.3 This Standard applies to safety-related systems and requires the owner to specify all equipment and activities to which this Standard and the second-tier Standards shall be applied. The second-tier N286 Standards are as follows: (a) CAN3-N286.1, Procurement Quality Assurance for Nuclear Power Plants; (b) CAN3-N286.2, Design Quality Assurance for Nuclear Power Plants; (c) CAN3-N286.3, Construction and Installation Quality Assurance for Nuclear Power Plants; (d) CAN3-N286.4, Commissioning Quality Assurance for Nuclear Power Plants; and (e) CAN3-N286.5, Operations Quality Assurance for Nuclear Power Plants. Each second-tier Standard is complete in itself and is the governing Standard for that specific phase of the power plant life cycle.
