Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) Terminal Adaptation Using Statistical Multiplexing
This National Standard of Canada is equivalent to American National Standards Institute standard ANSI T1.612-1990. 1 Scope This standard covers the connection between the Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) and terminals with interfaces for modems conforming to current standards (e.g. ANSI/EIA 232-D-1986), operating in accordance with demand or semi-permanent circuit mode ISDN bearer services on bearer channels (B, H0, H10, or H11). The following circuit switched services are supported: multiplexing of several data links on a single bearer channel, and automatic establishment and acceptance of bearer channels and data links. The terminal adapter (TA) functions necessary to support the connection of non-ISDN terminal equipment to an ISDN interface include the following: conversion of electrical and mechanical interface characteristics; bit rate adaptation; end-to-end synchronization; and call establishment and disestablishment. NOTE - The protocol extensions of this standard for the connection of terminals with existing interfaces for use with a Frame Relay bearer service is for further study.
