1.1 This standard applies to two types of oxygenated unleaded gasoline to which no lead or phosphorous compounds have been added and in which the oxygenate consists essentially of methanol and cosolvent. 1.2 The oxygenated unleaded gasoline is intended for use in spark ignition engines equipped with emission control systems requiring the use of unleaded gasoline. 1.3 Some fuel systems may not be fully compatible with fuel to this standard. Users are advised to consult the motor vehicle owners' manual. 1.4 Limited data presented during the development of this standard indicate that gasoline containing methanol when being operated under conditions of high load and high speed can exhibit a lower antiknock performance than gasoline specified in CAN/CGSB-3.5-M of equivalent antiknock index.
