1.1 Applies to an inhibited phosphoric/oxalic acid type rust-stain remover that, when diluted with water, will remove rust stains from painted ferrous surfaces in the presence of small amounts of grease and oil. 1.2 Inhibited rust-stain remover covered by this standard is for use on painted ferrous surfaces or other painted metal surfaces stained by rust, e.g. ships and other marine equipment and structures. The surface to be cleaned should first have grease or oily films removed with a suitable solvent. The rust remover is left on the surface until the rust is dissolved or loosened sufficiently to permit easy removal by rubbing with a cloth or brush. The surface is then rinsed with fresh or salt water.
