1. SCOPE (Amendment No. 3, May 1996, Revised Section 1) 1.1 This Standard covers requirements applicable to Central Station Facilities and Protection Service, Monitoring Station Facilities and Protection Service, Satellite Centres, Signal Processing Centres, and Bridging Centres. 1.2 This Standard does not include requirements for hold-up alarm systems or panic alarm devices. 1.3 Signals received from residential, commercial and financial burglar alarm systems are monitored by central or monitoring station operators who process the signals and take action as appropriate for the type of signals received. 1.4 Signals received from residential, commercial and financial burglar alarm systems may be transmitted directly to a central or monitoring Station or by way of a satellite centre and/or a signal processing centre and/or a bridging centre. 1.5 Regardless of the type of protection service determined by this Standard, protective devices installed on individual properties are further classified as to extent of protection at each location. Requirements for the installation and classification (of extent) of alarm protective equipment at individual locations are contained in CAN/ULC-S302-M91, Standard for Installation and Classification of Burglar Alarm Systems for Financial and Commercial Premises, Safes and Vaults, which should be consulted by burglar alarm installers.
