Safety Functions Incorporating Electronic Technology
1. Scope 1.1 This Standard prescribes guidelines for design, evaluation, and test of electronic safety functions, and is intended to provide guidance to the Subcommittees of the Standards Steering Committee on the Canadien Electrical Code, Part II. 1.2 This Standard applies to individual electronic components, assemblies, or systems including software and firmware that perform a safety function. 1.3 This Standard does not identify the unsafe conditions for which protection is required or indicate selection of the means that is appropriate for safety evaluation, as these considerations are to be the responsibility of the individual Subcommittees of the Standards Steering Committee on the Canadian Electrical Code, Part II. 1.4 The procedures listed in this Standard are recommended for reference in the Standards forming Part II of the Canadian Electrical Code. Although the verbal auxiliary "shall" is used to state the requirements of each test procedure given, it is essential to recognize that the procedures are nonmandatory in themselves, unless mandated by reference in individual Standards of Part II of the Canadian Electrical Code, or by Standards of other standards-writing organizations, or by users of this Standard.
