Applies to flame-producing devices commonly referred to as lighters, which though intended primarily for the ignition of cigarettes, cigars, and pipes, may also be used to ignite other items such as paper, candles and lanterns. They use petrochemical derivatives as fuel. The purpose of this standard is to establish safety standards for lighters to provide a reasonable degree of safety in their normal use and to discourage their misuse.
