Establishes safety standards for transportation of passengers on devices that are usually referred to by the following names: aerial ropeways, chair lifts, gondola lifts, T-bar lifts, J-bar lifts, platter lifts (and similar devices), and rope tows. This Standard does not cover equipment such as cog railways and cable cars running on rails. This Standard may be applied with modifications for hauling freight if approved by the authority having jurisdiction, provided allowance has been made in the design.
