Applies to signs for use in the occupational environment. It describes requirements for the shape and colour of signs and sets down a classification system, defined so as to assist the user in determining what signage is needed. The standard also includes requirements for glyphs which may be used with or without legends, subject to the limitations of the standard, to describe a specific message. Recommendations regarding the use of signs are provided in the form of appendices to the standard.
