1.1 These requirements cover automatic and open sprinklers employed on sprinkler systems used for fire-protection service. Requirements for the installation and use of sprinklers are included in the Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems, NFPA No. 13. 1.2 Sprinklers are categorized as automatic or open, and by temperature rating, orifice size, installation position, type of coating or plating, and other factors which may have a bearing on use. 1.3 If a value for measurement as given in these requirements is followed by an equivalent value in other units, the first stated value is to be regarded as the requirement. A given equivalent value may only be approximate.
