1.1 This Standard applies to helmets intended to provide protection for the heads of ice hockey players from impact and defines the areas of the head which are to be protected. It covers requirements for the construction and finish of helmets, and the materials to be used for the shell and cradle. Marking requirements are also included. NOTE: Metric equivalents are included for information only. 1.2 It includes performance tests covering the following: (a) Shock absorption properties of the complete helmet; (b) Resistance to penetration; and (c) Strength of the chin strap and/or neck strap and of its attachment. 1.3 Helmets having materials or forms of construction differing from those contemplated by this Standard shall be subject to special investigation to determine if they comply with the intent of this Standard. 1.4 Helmets which comply with these requirements shall not be acceptable if, when examined and tested, they are found to have additional features which reduce the degree of protection contemplated by this Standard.
