Z259.1-1976
Scope
1.1 This Standard defines fall arresting safety belts of the tongue buckle
type and lanyards. It may be applied to an assembly consisting of a
belt with an attached lanyard, or to a belt alone, or to a lanyard
alone.
Note: Requirements for quick-release and friction buckle types of belts
are under study.
1.2 The equipment specified in this Standard is intended primarily for use
by workers in the construction and mining industries, but can also be
used in certain other industries where there is a danger of a fall
from a height.
1.3 This Standard does not apply to special belts of harnesses, such as
linemen's belts, or those used by window washers, or by workers in
hazardous confined spaces.
1.4 This Standard does not cover specific designs for safety belts, except
insofar as design limitations are necessary to ensure safe and durable
service.
1.5 The drop test described in this Standard can be used to evaluate
special accessories which may be employed in conjunction with a safety
belt, but the Standard does not cover belt plus accessories as the
accessories can readily be changed from one belt to another. Such
accessories include safety rope grabs, connector toggles, and safety
rope.
1.6 Products having materials, or forms of construction differing from
those contemplated or covered by this Standard shall be considered as
complying with the Standard, providing they are substantially
equivalent, and meet the specified tests.
