1.1 This Standard stipulates the minimum requirements that must be met and adhered to by a company wishing to be certified and to maintain certification for fusion welding of steel structures, performed as part of the fabrication, fabrication and erection, or erection thereof. Note: In the case of a company having more than one plant, branch, or division, each plant shall be certified and listed separately. In this case, the term "company" as used in this Standard shall be considered to mean "plant" and a plant shall be considered as consisting of one or more shops in close proximity to each other, so that one supervisor may be reasonably expected to exercise adequate control. A company doing only erection work involving welding need not have a plant, but otherwise must conform to all the conditions of this Standard in order to be certified. 1.2 This Standard is intended to govern certification of companies and prescribes the standards and tests of procedures and personnel necessary for the issuance of a document of certification of such companies. It should not be construed as approving any products of such companies. 1.3 A condition of certification is that all welding of steel structures by a certified fabricator shall be in accordance with all the requirements of this Standard unless specified to the contrary and agreed* to between the purchaser and the fabricator.
