1. Scope 1.1 This standard provides recommended course guidelines for the minimum essential training of, and a procedure for the certification of three levels of personnel to perform liquid penetrant testing according to generally accepted and recognized procedures and techniques. 1.2 Such certification shall provide recognition of the qualifications and competence of the three levels of personnel. 1.3 This certification procedure does not of necessity cover liquid penetrant testing procedures and techniques required for specific products. Organizations and agencies making use of this standard shall determine that personnel performing liquid penetrant testing procedures and techniques required for specific products are further trained and qualified to meet the additional requirements as outlined in Appendix F before they perform liquid penetrant nondestructive testing on such specific products. Notes: In superseding 48-GP-9 (May 1970), this standard does not cancel the certification of personnel which would otherwise remain in effect. The certification of such personnel is reclassified with the designation Level II.
