CSA N-28

This TIL deals with the safety of electric operated utility winches for commercial use and similar purposes, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V. This TIL applies to portable and stationary utility winches employing steel cable or synthetic rope for tensioning, positioning, pulling heavy load, self-extricating, extricating another all-terrain recreational vehicle or similar applications, not for movement of persons, designed for casual use. The maximum length of rope or cable is 30m (100ft) This TIL does not apply to: - hoist for vertical raising and lowing a load, - winches used in forestry, Industrial, construction, demolition, scaffolding, elevator and escalator, work platforms, mining or marine.
