The purpose of this new Standard will be to provide minimum requirements, guidance, and best practices for the design and operations of flares, incineration and enclosed combustors in the petroleum and natural gas
industry. 

The first edition of this proposed Standard will address flaring, incineration and enclosed combustion in the
following sectors: 
a. Drilling activity including underbalanced drilling;
b. Completion and Well testing;
c. Well sites and gathering pipelines, thermal in-situ operations;
d. Processing (facilities up to and ending at custody transfer at the product outlet point); and
e. Workovers (well servicing).

The Standard should strive to be performance based
The proposed Standard will not include requirements for flaring, incineration and enclosed combustion for: 
a. Transmission and Distribution applications;
b. Oilsand mines;
c. LNG plants;
d. Offshore applications; and
e. Downstream and refineries.

Raison d’être du projet

As environmental effects are becoming increasingly important, this Standard will provide requirements and guidance for flaring, incineration and enclosed combustion practices. The requirements in this Standard can help users: a. Lower contributions to GHG emissions; b. Conserve resources; c. Enhance public/worker safety; and d. Be more energy efficient.
