This Standard provides the minimum requirements, unless otherwise specified by the authority having jurisdiction, for the purity of compressed breathing air supplied to the service outlet and for breathing air systems required to produce, store, and distribute such air.

This Standard is limited to compressed breathing air and compressed breathing air systems used in the following applications:

(a)    supplied-air respirators;

(b)   supplied-air suits;

(c)    self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) (open circuit);

(d)   ambient air systems; and

(e)        other applications for which qualified persons deem it appropriate to reference the compressed breathing air purity requirements described in this Standard, e.g., vortex tubes used for heating and cooling supplied-air suits

Raison d’être du projet

CSA Z180.1, Compressed breathing air and systems, is a companion document to our Z94.4 Standard on Selection, care, and use of respirators. Z180.1 deals specifically with the air supply systems for some types of respiratory protection equipment. With the completion of development of Z94.4-18 (containing new provisions for bioaerosol protection), there is now need to update Z180.1. This project would create a new edition of Z180.1 supporting the new and modified provisions in Z94.4. It would also address new technology introduced to compressed breathing air systems over the last 5 years. As some preliminary work has been completed in cooperation with the Z94.4 Respirators TC, this NE project should be straight-forward and relatively easy to complete (e.g., no additional research required and items to be updated have already been reviewed). The current plan is to complete the consensus draft by December of this year and publish the English version in September 2019. The French version would be published around the end of 2019
