Based on dissolution of a test sample in water, distillation of the ammonia after displacement by an alkali solution. Absorption in an excess of standard volumetric sulphuric acid solution and back-titration with standard volumetric sodium hydroxide solution in the presence of methyl red/methylene blue mixed indicator. A typical distillation apparatus is shown in a figure.
The method is applicable to undyed wool in any form, for example loose fibre, sliver, yarn or fabric. It is also applicable to dyed wool when the amount of dye extracted during the test does not interfere with the determination of the end-point of titration. The determined value is expressed as a percentage by mass.
Zinc — Determination of lead content — Polarographic method
The method is applicable to Zn 99,5, Zn 98,5 and Zn 98 and is suitable for the determination of lead contents between 0,1 and 3 %. Specifies principle, reagents, apparatus, sampling, procedure, expression of results and test report.
Zinc — Determination of lead and cadmium contents — Polarographic method
The method is applicable to Zn 99,995, Zn 99,99 and Zn 99,95. Although these types of zinc do not normally contain any thallium or indium, these two elements, if present, can interfere in this determination. The method is suitable for the determination of lead and cadmium contents between 0,001 and 0,05 %.
Zinc — Determination of copper content — Spectrophotometric method
Specifies two methods applicable to Zn 99,995, Zn 99,99, Zn 99,95, Zn 99,5 and Zn 98,5. The first method is suitable for the determination of copper contents between 0,0005 and 0,005 %. The second method applies to copper contents between 0,0025 and 0,1 %.
Zinc — Determination of cadmium content — Polarographic method
This method applies to the following types of zinc: Zn 99,95, Zn 99,5, Zn 98,5 and Zn 98 having cadmium contents between 0,01 and 0,5 %. It does not apply to zinc the copper content of which is more than four times higher as the cadmium content.
Zinc and zinc alloys — Determination of iron content — Spectrophotometric method
The method is applicable to the following zinc alloys: Zn Al 4, Zn Al 4 Cu 1, Zn Al 4 Cu 3, Zn Al 11 Cu 1. It is moreover applicable to die castings made from these alloys, and to zinc containing more than 0,01 % of copper. The method is suitable for the determination of iron contents between 0,01 and 0,08 %.
