This part of ISO 6742 specifies general requirements for retro-reflective devices for fitting to cycles intended to be used on public roads. Such retro-reflective devices are effective in conditions of poor visibility and at night in helping to make all road users aware of the presence of a cyclist.

Lays down the dimensions necessary for interchangeability, prototype test requirements and quality control of steel sockets for steel wire ropes within the nominal diameter range of 8 to 60 mm. Applies to forged, or machined sockets from solid or to cast sockets. These sockets are not suitable for use in conjunction with locked coil and spiral strands.

Lays down the basic requirements and the detailed design requirements. Annex B sets out the sections of other ISO-Standards which apply to this type of container. Requirements for containers to be transported by rotary-wing aircraft are excluded.
