In response to stakeholder feedback regarding content gaps, the scope will be broadened from primary care to primary health care (PHC) and a clear definition of PHC will be established. The standard revision will aim to make the standard: • Inclusive to be adaptable to various audiences using the standard through assessment manuals, including small organizations and Indigenous health facilities; and • Applicable to various primary care models in Canada and internationally. The revision will address content gaps including: health promotion and disease prevention, chronic disease management, social determinants of health, population health, care coordination, and team-based care. In order to meet the needs of Indigenous clients, specific language and content will be utilized and/or developed. The standard will not cover topic-specific content, such as smoking-cessation or early childhood development, rather, the standard will outline best practices (requirements) that ensure PHC teams are providing services that align with the key features of a high-quality PHC system.
Raison d’être du projet
The standard is intended to be used by health service providers, which include regional health authorities, integrated regional health authorities, acute care organizations, primary care networks and stand alone ambulatory care centers providing primary health care, as well as government administrations for quality improvement, inspection, commissioning, accreditation and/or policy-making.
