B126.0-13 - General requirements and methodsof testing for water cisterns
 

Scope

1.1 General

This Standard specifies materials, design, manufacturing practices, methods of testing, and markings for prefabricated water cisterns for potable and non-potable applications.

1.2 Types of cisterns

Cisterns covered in this Standard are

(a) made of steel, stainless steel, concrete, composite materials such as fibre-reinforced plastic (FRP), and polymers such as polyethylene;

Note: This Standard includes allowance for alternative materials.

(b) not pressurized;

(c) intended for above-ground, elevated, or buried installations, indoor and outdoor;

(d) intended to serve single-family dwellings, multi-family dwellings, and commercial establishments, or form an integral part of non-municipal communal water supply systems; and

(e) intended for mobile applications for replenishment of fixed installations and on-site distribution.

1.3 Cisterns not covered by the CSA B126 Series

This Standard does not cover

(a) water barrels and containers that are not connected to the plumbing system; and

(b) cisterns that form an integral part of municipal water works or municipal water supply systems.

1.4 Requirements for potable water cisterns

Specific requirements for cisterns intended for potable water applications are specified within each standard of the CSA B126 Series where applicable and identified as additional requirements for potable water cisterns.

1.5 Diction

In CSA Standards, "shall" is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; "should" is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; "may" is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the standard; and "can" is used to express possibility or capability.

Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material.

Notes to tables and figures are considered part of the table or figure and may be written as requirements.

Annexes are designated normative (mandatory) or informative (non-mandatory) to define their application.
