1.1

This Standard specifies the requirements and methodology for the continuous assessment of a businesses implementation of smart manufacturing practices.

 

1.2

This standard covers the processes and activities related to the implementation of smart manufacturing such as:

a) Product and Process Digitization;
b) Implementation of Emerging Digital Technology;
c) ICT Infrastructure;
d) Cyber Security;
e) Privacy; and
f) Continuous Improvement/Transformation (includes Benchmarking).

1.3

This Standard is intended for a business that wants to:

a) Implement smart manufacturing;
b)Demonstrate its readiness level for the implementation of smart manufacturing;
c) Identify next steps to progress their smart manufacturing implementation;
d( Maintain, and continually improve the effectiveness of their smart manufacturing implementation; and
e) Demonstrate the ability to consistently implement smart manufacturing principles.

Raison d’être du projet
The implementation of smart manufacturing practices is an essential process to improve the efficiency and performance of business by focusing on: Product, Process, Time to Market, Business Model and Globalization. The digitization of business and industry – commonly referred to as Digital Business Transformation (DBT) – is becoming an inevitable strategy to prepare a country for future challenges and growth. In Canada, manufacturing and small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) are planning to dramatically increase their digitization footprint by adopting smart manufacturing concepts into their business operations. With the recent Covid-19 pandemic there is an even greater need for the implementation of DBT and smart manufacturing concepts by Canadian business and industry for the delivery of value-added solutions that are both timely and cost-effective on a global scale. Currently there is no systematic approach for the implementation and assessment of smart manufacturing concepts for business and industry in Canada. This assignment may be achieved through a certification/attestation program based on compliance to the standard that will support the Government and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) programs in their assessment of the emerging digital technology implementation. This proposed standard will also support innovation in the field of smart manufacturing by providing requirements and guidance for business and industry including SME’s which creates 85% of all new jobs in Canada.
