This Standard, following the principles set out in CSA Z45001, will specify requirements for

a) establishing and maintaining a WAH management system in accordance with occupational health and safety management system (OHSMS) principles;

b) the roles and responsibilities of the management representative, the monitoring team, and the worker;

c) management of external service providers;

d) establishing the parameters of types of work at heights;

e) hazard identification and risk assessment relating to work at heights; and

f) management and control of hazards and risk relating to work at heights, including

i) development of general safety procedures for work performed at heights;

ii) personal protective equipment (PPE) and apparel used for work at heights;

iii) health and safety monitoring systems for work at heights, including work performed under inclement weather conditions;

iv) emergency rescue plan development and implementation; 

v) training for work at heights; and

vi) determining fitness for work at heights.

Raison d’être du projet

The purpose of this Standard will be to address the application of occupational health and safety management systems to programs and procedures for work to be performed at heights above ground level or close to an opening to a lower level where a fall hazard exists. This Standard will provides a) an overview of the steps an organization needs to take to establish and maintain an effective work-at-heights (WAH) management program; b) safety information for workers assigned to work at heights and for persons responsible for ensuring the safety of such workers; and c) requirements for emergency preparedness and high-angle rescue. This Standard will help users integrate their WAH management program into an organization’s existing occupational health and safety management system (OHSMS).
