This Standard provides requirements for the design, construction, and testing of elevator and escalator mechanical equipment including door locking devices and contacts, buffers, and escalator braking systems.

1.1

This Standard covers the following door locking devices for use in elevator systems within the scope of ASME A17.1/CSA B44 Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators:

(a) landing and hoistway door interlocks;

(b) landing and hoistway door combination mechanical locks and electric contacts;

(c) landing and hoistway door locking devices and electric contacts;

(d) car-door interlocks;

(e) car-door and gate electric contacts;

This Standard covers buffers designed to stop a descending car or counterweight from travel beyond its normal limit by absorbing and dissipating the kinetic energy of the car or counterweight, including oil buffer and elastomeric buffer. The buffers covered in the

Standard are intended for installation in passenger and freight elevator in accordance with ASME A17.1/CSA B44-16 Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators. The oil buffers may be with and without auxiliary electrical circuits to signal their status to an elevator controller.
