Champ d’application

B138.1-17 - Portable oil-burning equipment - Packaged equipment requirements

Scope

1.1
This Standard is arranged in two parts, as follows:
a) CSA B138.1 covers requirements for manufacturing, testing, marking, and manufacturer's instructions of portable oil-burning equipment; and
b) CSA B138.2 covers requirements for installation of portable oil-burning equipment including field installed ancillary equipment required for operation of the portable oil-burning equipment.

1.2
This Standard, CSA B138.1, applies to portable oil-burning equipment which is operated while stationary and may be relocated to other locations. The products covered by this Standard may include oil-burning appliances, their fuel systems, related components and accessories, and their associated electrical features. Portable oil-burning equipment covered by this Standard may incorporate internal combustion engines, power generating equipment, or other shaft-driven process equipment.

1.3
This Standard provides minimum requirements for components used in portable oil-burning equipment, that include but are not limited to
a) piping and tubing systems;
b) fuel transfer pumps;
c) control devices;
d) tank fill and venting systems;
e) appliance venting systems;
f) packaged equipment enclosures;
g) skid, trailer or vehicle mount; and
h) electrical wiring.

1.4
This Standard does not apply to
a) stationary oil-burning equipment which would otherwise be subject to the requirements of CSA B139 and the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I;
b) power generating systems with an output voltage greater than 15 kV;
c) power generating systems rated greater than 4 MW;
d) a portable oil-burning appliance with a fuel system which has a fuel tank capacity of 45 L (10 gal) or less;
e) power generating systems with single phase electrical output ratings of 12 kW or less at 240 V or less;
f) portable equipment incorporating internal combustion engines other than generators, rated at 25 brake horsepower or less; or
g) appliances installed in mobile housing, recreational vehicles, and marine craft.

1.5
The Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act (TDG) and the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations can set out requirements that are additional to or different from those in this Standard due to particular characteristics or properties or individual dangerous goods. Where there is an inconsistency between the requirements of this Standard and those of the Act or Regulations, the Act or Regulations prevail to the extent of the inconsistency.

1.6
In this Standard, shall is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; should is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; and may is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the standard.

Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material.

Notes to tables and figures are considered part of the table or figure and may be written as requirements.

Annexes are designated normative (mandatory) or informative (nonmandatory) to define their application.

B138.2-17 - Portable oil-burning equipment - Installation requirements

Scope

1.1
This Standard applies to the operation and use of portable oil-burning equipment which conforms to CSA B138.1, and includes
a) requirements for placement of equipment;
b) requirements for field installation of associated equipment and interconnecting piping;
c) requirements for the responsibilities of the operator of the packaged equipment; and
d) requirements for the responsibilities of the owner of the packaged equipment.

1.2
Where a requirement of this Standard conflicts with the requirements of CSA B139, the requirements of this Standard take precedence.

1.3
This Standard does not apply to
a) fixed installations in accordance with CSA B139;
b) portable oil-burning appliances with a fuel system which have a fuel tank capacity of 45 L (10 gal) or less and

i) for generators with electrical output ratings of 12 kW or less at 240 V or less, single phase; or
ii) other portable engine driven equipment with maximum engine ratings of 25 brake horsepower;

c) electrical wiring within the scope of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I; or
d) appliances installed in mobile housing, recreational vehicles, and marine craft.

1.4
In this Standard, shall is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; should is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; and may is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the standard.
